The Shiva Mahimna Stotra is very popular among the devotees of Lord Shiva and is considered one of the best among all Stotras (or Stutis) offered to Lord Shiva. The legend about the circumstances leading to the composition of this Stotra is as follows.

 The Composition (Story of Pushpadanta)

A king named Chitraratha had constructed a nice garden . There were beautiful flowers in this garden . These flowers were used every day by the king in worshipping Lord Shiva. One day a Gandharva (Heavenly Singer in the court of Indra, the Lord of the Heaven) named Pushhpadanta being fascinated by the beautiful flowers, began to stealthem, as a consequence of which king Chitraratha could not offer flowers to Lord Shiva . He tried very hard to capture the thief, but in vain, because the Gandharvas have divine power to remain invisible.

Finally the king spread the Shiva Nirmaalya in his garden . Shiva Nirmaalya consists of the Bilva leaves, flowers, etc. which have been used in worshipping Lord Shiva . The Shiva Nirmaalya is considered holy.

The thief Pushhpadanta, not knowing this, walked on the Shiva Nirmaalya, and by that he incurred the wrath of Lord Shiva and lost the divine power of invisibility . He then designed a prayer to Lord Shiva for forgiveness. In this prayer he sung the greatness of the Lord.

This very prayer became well known as the ‘Shiva Mahimna Stotra’. Lord Shiva became pleased by this Stotra, and returned Pushhpadanta’s divine powers.

The legend has some basis since the name of the author is mentioned in verse number 38 of the stotram. The recital of this stotra is very beneficial, therefore let its recitation be beneficial to all beings!

Text 1

mahimnah param te parama vidusho yadyasadrishi
stutir brahma dina mapitadava sannastvayi girah,
atha vacyah sarvah svamati parina mavadhi grinan
mamapyeshah stotre hara nirapavadah parikarah

Sri Pushpadanta said:

If it is unseemly to praise You when ignorant of the extent of’ Your greatness, then even the praises of Brahma and others are inadequate. If no one can be blamed when they praise You according to their intellectual powers, then my attempt to compose a hymn cannot be reproached. (1)

Text 2

Atitah panthanam tava ca mahima vanmanasayor
atad vyavrttya yam cakita mabhi dhatte shrutirapi,
sa kasya stotavyah katividha gunah kasya vishayah
pade tvarvacine patati na manah kasya na vacah.

Your greatness is beyond the reach of mind and speech. Who can properly praise that which even the Vedas describe with trepidation, by means of’ ‘neti-neti / not this, not this’? How many qualities does He possess? By whom can He be perceived? Yet whose mind and speech do not turn to the form later taken by Him (saguna) (2)

 Text 3

Madhu sphita vacah paramam amritam nirmitavatas
tava brahman kim vag api suraguror vismaya padam,
mama tvetam vanim guna kathana punyena bhavatah
punam ityarthe’smin puramathana buddhir vyavasita.

O Brahman! Do even Brihaspati’s praises cause wonder to You, the author of the nectar like sweet Vedas? 0 destroyer of the three cities, the thought that by praising Your glories I shall purify my speech has prompted me to undertake this work. (3)

Text 4

Tavaisvaryam yat taj jagadudaya raksa  pralayakrit
trayivastu vyastam tisrishu guna-bhinnasu tanushu,
abhavyanam asmin varada ramaniyama ramanim
vihantum vyakrosim vidadhata ihaike jadadhiyah.

O Giver of boons! Some stupid people produce arguments–pleasing to the ignorant but in fact hateful– to refute Your Divinity, which creates, preserves and destroys the world, which is divided into three bodies (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) according to the three gunas, and which is described in the three Vedas. (4)

Text 5

Kimihah kimkayah sa khalu kimupaya stribhuvanam
kimadharo dhata srijati kimupadana iti ca,
atarkyaish varye tvay yanavasara duhstho hatadhiyah
kutarko’yam kamshcin mukharayati mohaya jagatah.

To fulfill what desire, assuming what form, with what instruments, support and material does that Creator create the three worlds? This kind of futile argumentation about You whose divine nature is beyond the reach of intellect, makes the perverted vociferous, and brings delusion to men. (5)

Text 6

Ajanmano lokah kimavayava vanto’pi jagatam
adhisthataram kim bhavavidhir-anadritya bhavati,
anisho va kuryad bhuvana janane kah parikaro
yato mandastvam praty-amaravara samsherata ime.

O Lord of gods! Can the worlds be without origin, though they have bodies? Is their creation possible without a creator? Who else but God can initiate the creation of the worlds?  Because they are fools they raise doubts about Your existence. (6)

Text 7

Trayi sankhyam yogah pasupati matam vaishnavamiti
prabhinne prasthane paramidamadah pathyamiti ca,
rucinam vaicitryad riju kutila nana pathajusham
nrinameko gamyas tvamsasi payasa marnava iva.

Different paths (to realization) arc enjoined by the three Vedas, by Sankhya, Yoga, Pashupata (Shaiva) (doctrine and Vaishnava Shastras. People follow different paths, straight or crooked, according to their temperament, depending on which they consider best, or most appropriate–and reach You alone just as rivers enter the ocean. (7)

Text 8

Mahokshah khatvangam parashu-rajinam bhasma haninah
kapalam cetiyat tava varada tantro pakaranam,
surastam tamriddhim dadhati tu bhavad bhru pranihitam
na hi svatma ramam vishaya mriga trishna bhramayati.

O Giver of boons! A great bull, a wooden hand rest, an axe, a tiger skin, ashes, serpents, a human skull and other such things–these are all You own, though simply by casting Your eyes on gods You gave them great treasures which they enjoy. Indeed one whose delight is in the Self cannot be deluded by the mirage of sense objects. (8)

Text 9

Dhruvam kascit sarvam sakala mapara stva dhruva midam
paro dhrau vyadhrauvye jagati gadati vyasta vishaye,
samaste’pye tasmin puramathana tair vismita iva
stuvan jihremi tvam na khalu nanu dhrishta mukharata.

O Destroyer of the demon Pura, some say that the whole universe is eternal while others say that all is transitory. Others still, hold that it is eternal and non-eternal — having different characteristics. Bewildered by all this, I do not feel ashamed to praise You; indeed my loquacity is an indication of my boldness. (9)

  Text 10

Tavaisvaryam yatnad yadupari virincir-hari-radhah
paricchettum yatav anala manala skandha vapushah,
tato bhakti sraddha bhara-guru-grinad-bhyam girisha yat
svayam tasthe tabhyam tava kim anuvrittir na phalati
.

O Girisha, when You took the form of a pillar of fire, Brahma trying from above and Vishnu trying from below failed to measure You. Afterwards, when they praised You with great faith and devotion, You revealed yourself to them of Your own accord; does not surrender to You bear fruit? (10)

Text 11

Ayatnadapadya tribhuvanama-vairavya-tikaram
dashasyo yadbahun abhrita ranakandu paravashan,
sthirah padmasreni racita caranam bhoruhabaleh
sthiraya stvad bhaktes tripurahara visphur jitamidam.

O Destroyer of Tripura, it was because of that great devotion, which prompted him to offer his heads as lotuses to Your feet, that the ten-headed Ravana was still with arms and eager for fresh war after he had effortlessly rid the three worlds of all traces of enemies. (11)

Text 12

Amushya tvatseva samadhigata-saram bhujavanam
balat-kailase’pi tvadadhivasatau vikramayatah,
alabhya patale pyalasa-calitan-gustha-shirasi
pratishtha tvayyasid dhruvamupacito muhyati khalah

But when he (Ravana) extended the valour of his arms-whose strength was obtained by worshipping You- to Kailas, Your abode, You moved the tip of Your toe, and he did not find a resting place even in the nether world. Truly, when affluent the wicked become deluded. (12)

Text 13

Yadriddhim sutramno varada paramo-ccairapi satim
adhashcakre banah parijana vidheya tribhuvanah,
na taccitram tasmin varivasitari tvac caranayor
na kasya unnatyai bhavati srirasastvay yavanatih.

O Giver of boons, since Bana was the worshipper of Your feet is it to be wondered at that he had the three worlds at his command and put to shame the wealth of Indra? What prosperity does not come from bowing down the head to You? (13)

Text 14

Akanda brahmanda kshaya cakita devasura kripa
vidheya syasidyas trinayana visham samhrita vatah,
sa kalmashah kanthe tava na kurute na shriya maho
vikaro’pi shlaghyo bhuvana-bhaya-bhangavyasaninah.

O Three-Eyed One, who drank poison out of compassion for gods and demons when they were distraught at the sudden prospect of the destruction of the universe, surely the dark blue stain on Your throat has beautified You. Even deformity is to be admired in one who is given to freeing the world of fear. (14)

Text 15

Asiddhartha naiva kvacidapi sadeva suranare
nivartante nityam, jagati jayino yasya vishikhah,
sa pashyannisa tvam itara surasadharana mabhut
smarah smarta-vyatma na hi vasishu pathyah paribhavah

O Lord, the god of love, whose arrows never fail in the world of gods and men, become nothing but an object of memory because he looked on You as an ordinary god (his body being burnt by Your look of wrath). An insult to the self-controlled is not conducive to good. (15)

Text 16

Mahi padaghatad vrajati sahasa samshaya-padam
padam visnor-bhramyad bhujaparigha-rugna-graha-ganam,
muhur-dyaur-dausthyam yat-yanibhrita-jata-taditatata
jagad-rakshayai tvam natasi nanu vamaiva vibhuta.

When You danced to save the world, the earth was suddenly thrown into a precarious state at the striking of Your feet; the spatial regions and the hosts of stars felt oppressed by the movement of Your massive club-like arms; and the heavens became miserable as their sides were constantly struck by Your waving matted hair.  Indeed it is Your very mightiness which is the cause of the trouble. (16)

Text 17

Viyad-vyapi tara gana-gunita phenod-gama-rucih
pravaho varam yah prishata-laghu-dristah shirasi te,
jagad-dvipakaram jaladhivalayam tena kritami-
tyane-naivon-neyam dhrita-mahima divyam tava vapuh.

The river which pervades the sky and whose foam crests look all the more beautiful because of stars and planets, seems no more than a drop of water when on Your head. That same river has turned the world into islands surrounded by waters. From this can be judged  vastness of Your divine body. (17)

Text 18

Rathah kshoni yanta shata-dhriti-ragendro dhanuratho
rathange candrarkau rathacarana-panih shara iti,
didhakshoste ko’yam tripura-trina-madambara-vidhir
vidheyaih kridantyo na khalu paratantrah prabhu-dhiyah.

When You wanted to burn the three cities of the demons – which were but a piece of straw to You–the earth was Your chariot, Brahma Your charioteer, the great mountain Meru Your bow, the sun and the moon the wheels of Your chariot, Vishnu Your arrow. Why all this paraphernalia? The Lord is not dependent on others. He was only playing with things at His command. (18)

Text 19

Hariste sahasram kamala-balima-dhaya padayor
yadekone tasmin nija-mudaharan-netra-kamalam,
gato bhaktyu-drekah parinatim-asau cakra-vapusha
trayanam rakshayai tripura-hara jagarti jagatam
.

O Destroyer of the three cities, Hari rooted out His own lotus-eye to make up the difference when one flower was missing in His offering of 1,000 lotuses to Your feet. For this great devotion You awarded the discus (Sudarshan Chakra) ~ with which Hari protects the three worlds. (19)

Text 20

Kratau supte jagrat tvamasi phalayoge kratumatam
kva karma pradhvastam phalati purusha-radhana-mrite,
atas-tvam sam-preksya kratusu phala-dana-pratibhuvam
shrutau shraddham baddhva dridha-parikarah karmasu janah
.

When a sacrifice has ended, You ever keep awake to bestow its fruit on the sacrificer. How can any action bear fruit if not accompanied by worship of You, 0 Lord? Therefore, knowing You to be the Giver of fruits of sacrifices and putting faith in the Vedas, people become resolute about the performance of sacrificial acts. (20)

Text 21

Kriyadakso dakshah kratupati-radhisha-stanubhritam
rishinamartvijyam sharanada sadasyah suraganah,
kratu-bhramshas-tvattah kratuphala-vidhana-vyasanino
dhruvam kartuh sraddha vidhura-mabhicaraya hi makhah.

O Giver of refuge, even that sacrifice where Daksha, the Lord of creation and expert in sacrifices, was the sacrificer, rishis were priests, gods participants, was destroyed by You who are habitually the Giver of fruits of sacrifices. Surely sacrifices cause injury to the sacrificers in the absence of faith and devotion. (21)

Text 22

Praja-natham natha prasabha-mabhikam svam duhitaram
gatam rohid-bhutam rira-mayishumrishyasya vapusha,
dhanus paner yatam divamapi sapatra kritamamum
trasantam te’dyapi tyajati na mriga-vyadharabhasah.

O Lord, the fury of You who became a hunter with a bow in hand has not as yet left Brahma who, overcome by incestuous lust and finding his own daughter transforming herself into a hind, desired to ravish her in the body of a stag and keenly pierced by Your arrows, he (Brahma) has fled to the sky(22)

Text 23

Svalavanya-shamsa dhrita-dhanusha-mahnnaya trinavat
purah plustam drishtva pura-mathana pushpa-yudhamapi,
yadi strainam devi yama-nirata dehardha-ghatana
davaiti tvam-addha bata varada mugdha yuvatayah.

O Destroyer of the three cities, 0 Giver of boons, is Parvati who saw the god of love, bow in hand, burnt like a piece of straw in a minute by You, still proud of her beauty and believing that You are fascinated by her, because she was allowed to occupy half Your body because of her austerities?  Ah, surely all women are under delusion. You have completely conquered Your senses. (23)

Text 24

Shmashanesva-krida smarahara pishacah sahacarash
cita-bhasma-lepah sragapi nrikaroti-parikarah.
amangalyam shilam tava bhavatu namaiva-makhilam
tathapi smartrinam varada paramam mangalamasi
.

O Destroyer of the god of love, 0 Giver of boons, Your play is in cremation grounds, Your companions are ghosts, You smear Your body with the ashes of burnt bodies, human skulls are Your garland-all Your conduct is indeed inauspicious. But You promote the greatest good of those who remember You. (24)

Text 25

Manah pratyak-citte savidha-mavadhayatta-marutah

dadhat-yantas-tattvam kimapi yaminas-tat kila bhavan.

You are indeed that inexpressible Truth which the yogis realize within through concentrating their minds on the Self and controlling the breath according to the directions laid down in the scriptures, and realizing which Truth they experience rapturous thrills and shed profuse tears of joy; swimming as it were in a pool of nectar they enjoy inner bliss. (25)

Text 26

paricchinnam-evam tvayi parinata bibhratu giram
na vidmas-tat-tattvam vayamiha tu yat-tvam na bhavasi.

The wise hold this limiting view of You: You are the sun, You are the moon, You are fire, You are air, You are water, You are space, You are the earth and You are the Self.  But we do not know the things which You are not. (26)

Text 27

O Giver of refuge, with the three letters A, U, M, indicating the three Vedas, three states, three worlds and the three gods, the word AUM(Om) describes You separately.  By its subtle sound the word Om collectively denotes You – Your absolute transcendental state which is free from change. (27)

Text 28

statha bhime-shanav iti yadabhi-dhana-shtakam-idam,
amushmin-pratyekam pravicarati deva shrutirapi
priyayasmai dhamne pravihita-namasyo’smi bhavate.

O Lord! Bhava, Sharva, Rudra, Pashupati, Ugra, Mahadeva, Bhima, and Ishana-these eight names of Yours are each treated in detail in the Vedas.  To You, most beloved Lord Shankara, of resplendent form, I offer salutations. (28)

Text 29

Namo nedisthaya priyadava davishthaya ca namo
namah kshodisthaya smarahara mahishthaya ca namah
namo varshishthaya trinayana yavishthaya ca namo
namah sarvasmai te tadida-mitisarvaya ca namah.

O Lover of solitude, my salutations to You who are the nearest and the farthest. 0 Destroyer of the god of love, my salutations to You who are the minutest and also the largest. 0 Three-eyed one, my salutations to You who are the oldest and also the youngest. My salutations to You again and again who are all and also transcending all. (29)

Text 30

prabala-tamase tat-samhare haraya namo namah,
jana-sukhakrite sattvo-driktau mridaya namo namah
pramahasi pade nistraigunye shivaya namo namah.

Salutations to You as Brahma in whom rajas prevails for the creation of the universe. Salutations to You as Rudra in whom tamas prevails for its destruction. Salutations to You as Vishnu in whom sattva prevails for giving happiness to the people. Salutations to You, 0 Shiva, who are effulgent and beyond the three attributes. (30)

Text 31

kva ca tava gunasimol langhini shashva-driddhih,
iti cakita-mamandi kritya mam bhakti-radhad
varada caranayo-ste vakya-pushpo-paharam.

O Giver of boons, how poor is my ill-developed mind, subject to afflictions, and how boundless Your divinity- Eternal and possessing infinite virtues. Though terror–stricken because of this, I am inspired by my devotion to offer this hymnal garland at Your feet. (31)

Text 32

Asita-giri-samam syat kajjalam sindhu-patre
sura-taruvara-shakha lekhani patra-murvi,
likhati yadi grhitva sharada sarva-kalam
tadapi tava gunanam isha param na yati.

O Lord, if the black mountain be ink, the ocean the inkpot, the branch of the stout wish-fulfilling tree a pen, the earth the writing leaf, and if taking these the Goddess of Learning writes for eternity, even then the limit of Your virtues will not be reached. (32)

Text 33

Asura-sura-munindrair arcita-syendu-mauler
grathita-guna-mahimno nirguna-syesvarasya,
sakala-gana-varisthah pushpadanta-bhidhano
rucira-malaghu-vrittaih stotra-metac-cakara.

The best of Gandharvas, Pushpadanta by name, composed in great devotion this beautiful hymn to the Lord, who is worshipped by demons, gods, and the best of sages, whose praises have been sung, who has the moon on His forehead, and who is attributeless. (33)

Text 34

Ahara-harana-vadyam dhurjateh stotra-metat
pathati paramabhaktya shuddhacittah pumanyah.
sa bhavati shivaloke rudra-tulya-stathatra
pracuratara-dhanayuh putravan-kirtimanshca.

The person who with purified heart and in great devotion always reads this beautiful and elevating hymn to Shiva, becomes like Shiva (after death) in the abode of Shiva, and while in this world gets abundant wealth, long life, progeny and fame. (34)

Text 35

Maheshannaparo devo mahimno napara stutih,
aghorannaparo mantro nasti tattvam guroh param.

There is no God higher than Shiva, there is no hymn better than the hymn on the greatness of Shiva, there is no mantra more powerful than the name of Shiva, there is nothing higher to be known than the real nature of the Guru. (35)

Text 36

Diksha danam tapas tirtham jnanamyaga-dikah kriyah,
mahimnah stava pathasya kallam narhanti shodashim

Initiation into spiritual life, charities, austerities, pilgrimages, practice of yoga, performance of sacrificial rites – none of these give even a sixteenth part of the merit that one gets by reciting the hymn on the greatness of Shiva. (36)

Text 37

Kusuma-dashana-nama sarva-gandharva-rajah
shishu-shashadhara-mauler deva-devasya dasah
sa khalu nija-mahimno bhrashta evasya roshat
stavanamidamakarsid divya-divyam mahimnah.

The Lord of Gandharvas, Pushpadanta by name, is the servant of the God of gods who has the crescent moon on his forehead. Fallen from his glory due to the wrath of the Lord, he composed this very beautiful uplifting hymn on the greatness of Shiva to regain His favor. (37)

Text 38

Suravaramuni-pujyam sarvagamokshaikahetum
pathati yadi manushyah pranjalir-nanyacetah,
vrajati shiva-samipam kinnaraih stuyamanah
stavanamidamamogham puspadanta-pranitam.

If one with single-minded devotion and folded palms reads this unfailing hymn composed by Pushpadanta, which is adored by great gods and the best of sages and which grants heaven and liberation, one goes to Shiva and is worshipped by Kinnaras (celestial beings). (38)

Text 39

Asamapta-midam stotram punyam gandharva bhashitam,
anaupamyam manohari shiva-mishvara-varnanam
.

Thus ends this unparalleled sacred hymn composed by Pushpadanta and describing the glory of God Shiva in a most fascinating manner. (39)

Text 40

Ityesa vanmayi puja shrimac shankara padayoh,
arpita tena devesah priyatam me sadashivah.

This hymn worship is offered at the feet of Shiva. May the ever beneficent Lord of gods be pleased with me at this! (40)

Text 41

Tava tattwamna janami kidrishosi maheshwara
yadrashosi mahadeva tadrashaya namo namah

I do not know the truth of your nature and who you are- O great God my salutations to your true nature. (41)

Text 42

Eka kalam dwikalam wa trikalam yah pathennarah
sarva papa vinirmuktah shivaloke mahiyate

Whoever reads this once, twice or thrice (in a day) revels in the domain of Shiva, bereft of all sins. (42)

Text 43

Sri pushpadanta mukha pankaja nirgatena
stotrena kilbisha harena hara-priyena,
kanthas thitena pathitena samahitena
suprinito bhavati bhutapatir maheshah.

If a person learns by heart and recites this hymn, which flowed from the lotus mouth of Pushpadanta, which destroys sins and is dear to Shiva and which equally promotes the good of all, Shiva, the Lord of creation, becomes very pleased. (43)

Ithi Sri Pushpadanta Virachith Shiva Mahimna Stotram Samaptham

Ganesh Vandana is an invocation to Lord Ganesha, one of the most popular diety in Hindus, and is the God of all Ganas and is God of all beginings’s. Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and his vehicle is a mouse. It is said no prayer bears fruit unless one invokes the name of Ganesha first.

The Ganesh Vandana is an prayer or stuti to worship of Lord Shri Ganesha; Hindus recite the Ganesh Vandana at the beginning of a religious ritual or beginning of a new work or any event.

It is considered to auspicious to recite the Ganesh Vandana to make a new beginning in life.

Ganesha Mahima Sthotram

1.Anirvachyam roopam sthavana nikaro yathra galitha,
Sthadha vakshye stotram pradhama purushasyathra mahatha,
Yatho jatham viswam sthiramapi sadaa yathra vilaya ,
Sakeedru geeravana sunigamanutha Sri Ganapathi.

He from whom all great incomparable chants originated,
He who is that great primeval God about whom I am going to relate,
He from whom this universe originated and in whom it stays,
And in whom it merges in the end , that Ganapathi whom the Veda salutes,
Is the one who has the form that is completely beyond definition.

2.Ganesam, Ganesaa , Shivamithi cha saivascha vibhudhaa,
Ravim souraa Vishnum Prathama purusham, Vishnu Bhajakaa,
Vdanthyekam saakthaa jagad udaya moolaam para sivaam,
Na jane kim thasmai nama ithi param brahma sakalam.

He is worshipped as Ganesa by the Ganapathyas, as Shiva by Shaivites,
As Sun God by the Souras , as Vishnu the primeval one by Vaishnavas,
And is told as he primeval power from which universe originated by the Shakthas,
And I am not able to understand how to worship him who is the part of the Brahmam.

3.Thadesam yogagnaa Ganapathimam karma nikhilam,
Sa meemamsa Vedanthina ithi param brahma sakalam,
Ajaam saankhyoo broothe sakala guna roopancha sathatham,
Prakarthaaram nyaayaa sthadhaa jagathi boudhaa diyamithi.

Similarly that Ganapathi is considered by the followers of Yoga as God,
By the experts of Meemamsa as the group of activities, by the Vedanthins ,
As the properties less Brahmam, by Sankhyas as the three fold nature with all forms
By the Nayyayikas as the ultimate soul and Boudhas as knowledge of God.

4.kadham gneyo budhe para thara iyam bahya sarani-,
Ryadhaa dheeryasya swathsa cha thadanu roopo Ganapathi,
Mahath kruthyam thasya swayamapi mahaan sookshma manuvad,
Dwanir jyothir bindhur gagana sadrusa kincha sadasath.

How can one understand his form which is beyond thought,
Because Lord Ganapathi takes suitable forms according to ,
The wisdom of his devotees and by his great work,
He appears as big or tiny or in form of great sound,
Or as the flame of light or like the great sky or in the form of cause and effect.

5.Anekaasyo aparakshi kara charano anantha hrudaye-,
Sthadha nana roopo , vividha vadana, Sri Ganapathi,
Ananthahwe sakthyaa vividha guna karmaika samaye ,
Thwad sankhyaa thaa anantha abhimatha phaladho aneka vishaye.

With several mouths, several eyes, , several arms and legs,
With a heart which is endless, Lord Ganapathi has varied forms,
And he has several toungues and due to his great power,
He depends on varied properties and varied times,
And due to this he has varied names and grants varied benefits ,
Which are endless and as per our wishes.

6.Na yasyantho madhyo na cha bhavathi chadhi sumahatho-,
Pyaliptha kruthwetham sakalamapi kham vathsa cha pruthak,
Smrutha samsamrthrunaam sakala hrudhayastha priyakaro,
Namasthasmai devaya sakala suvandhyaya mahathe.

He does not have a beginning , middle or end and though he has done,
The great job of creation of this universe , he exists separately,
And though he exists in every one , when meditated by devotees,
He becomes dear to them and my salutations to that god who is worshipped by all.

7.Ganesadhyam bheejam dahana vanitha pallava yutham,
Manuscaikaarnoyam pranava sahithobheeshta phaladha,
Sa binduschangaadhyaam ganaka rishi schandhasya cha nichrul,
Sadeva prag bheejam vipatadhapi cha shakthir japa kruthaam.

The root chant starting with “Om” and ending with Swaha (wife of Agni)
And with “Ganesa” in the middle is one that fulfills all desires,
The sage for that is “Ganaka,” , the metere is “Nichrudh,
The God addressed is “Ganesa” , the root is “Prag” and the strength is “Vipadha”.

8.Gakaro Heramba , saguna ithi pumniruguna mayo,
Dwithapyako Jatha prukruthi purushou Brahma hi gana,
Sachesaschodh pathi stidha laya karoyam pramadhako,
Yatho bhootham bhavyam bhavathi pathir eeso Ganapathi.

He with a name starting with “Ga” is without any characters though he has all of them,
And is Brhamam and splits in to two namely Prakruthi(Nature) and Purusha ( the man who makes it act),
And he became suitable because of the addition of “Na”
And is engaged in the creation, upkeep and destruction and so becomes the “God”,
And also the word “pathi” denotes God and this would mean that,
He who is responsible for the present , future and past.

9.Gakara kanter ardhwam gaja mukha samo marthya sadruso,
Nakara kantadho jatara sadrusakara ithi cha,
Adhobhaga katyaam charana ithi heesosya cha thanur,
Vibhaatheetham nama tribhuvana samam bhor bhuva suva.

The letter “Ga” indicates the portion above the neck including the elephant face,
And the Letter “NA” indicates the human form beneath the neck,
And the letter “AA” denotes his paunch as well as his feet,
And this god who is the creator of the entire universe,
Is equal to the all three worlds (Bhoo, Bhuva and Suva) as indicated ,

10.Ganesethi trinathathmakamapi varam naama sukhadham,
Sakruth prochair ucharaithamithi nrubhi pavanakaram,
Ganesa saikasya prathi japa kara sysasya sukrutham,
Na vignatho naamna sakala mahima kee drusa vrudha.

The three lettered name “Ganesa “ is a blessing and brings all comforts,
If it is chanted loudly and it even purifies the king,
When the effect of once chanting the name “Ganesa” brings to you so many blessings,
How can we ever measure the greatness of that great name.

11.Ganesathyaahwaam yaa pravadathi muhu sthasya patha,
Prapasyam sthwad vakthram swayamapi ganasthishtathi thadhaa,
Swaroopasya jnanananthwamuka ithi naamnaasya bhavathi,
Prabodha supthasya thwa akhilamiha samarthyamamunaa.

He who keeps on repeating the name “Ganesa” is seen by ,
The Bootha Ganas with respect and they come and sit in front of him,
And he gets the real knowledge of the form of Ganesa by that name,
And all knowledge comes to him like a man who has just woken up from sleep.

12.Ganesa viswesmin sthitha iha cha viswam Ganapathou,
Ganesoyothrasthe druthi mathira maiswarya makhilam,
Samuktham naamaikam Fanapathi padam mangala mayam,
Thadekaasye drushti sakala vibhudhaasyekshana samam.

In this world , Lord Ganapathi lives and the universe is within him,
And wherever Ganapathi is there , courage , wisdom wealth ,
And all other sorts of wealth are also there,
And wherever his name is chanted happiness and good fills that place ,
And seeing his one face is equivalent to seeing the faces of all gods.

13.Bahu klesai vyaptha smrutha utha Ganese cha hrudhaye,
Kshanath klesaa nmuktho bhavathi sahasaa thvabrachayavath,
Vane Vidhyarambhe yudhi ripu bhaye kuthra gamane ,
Pravese praananthe Ganapathipathandhasu visathi.

If a man who is suffering from various problems , thinks of Ganapathi in his heart,
Immediately he gets free from such problems , even if he worships him,
In Forest or at the beginning of education or war or fear of enemy ,
And in the end of all, he would reach the feet of Ganapathi and stay there.

14.Ganadhyaksho Jyeshta Kapila aparo mangala nidhi-,
Ddhayalu herambho varadha ithi chinthamair aja,
Varaaneso dundir gaja vadana naara shiva sutho,
Mayooreso gowri thanaya ithi namani padathi.
——-
We have to chant his names like , the president of Ganas,
Elder brother, red one who is outside , treasure of auspiciousness,
Merciful one , one close to Lord Shiva, One who blesses ,wish giving gem , one who is not born,
God of boons , enquirer , one who has an elephant face, son of Shiva,
God of the peacock, and son of Goddess Parvathi.

15.Mahesoyam Vishnu sa kavi ravir indhu kamalaja,
Kshithisthoyam Vahni swasana ithi Kham thwadrirudadhi,
Kujastharaa shukro pururudu budho aguscha dhanadho,
Yama pasi kavya sani rakhila roopo Ganapathi.

All forms like Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Sun, Moon, Goddess Lakshmi,
The earth , water , fire , air and the sky , the sea that holds the water ,
Mars , other stars . Shukra , guru, budha , the ascending nodes , kubhera ,
Yama , Varuna , sani and the entire universe of mountains and valleys are his forms.

16.Mukham vahni , padhou hari rapi vidathaa prajananam,
Ravirnethra chandro hrudayamapi kamosya madhana,
Karou sakra katyamakhanirudara m bhaani dasanam,
Ganesayasan vai krathu maya vapu schaiva sakalam.

His face is fire , his feet is Lord Vishnu , his organs of reproduction is Brahma,
His eyes are Sun , heart the moon god, passion is the God of love,
His hands are Lord Indra, hip is Rudra and his teeth are the stars,
And thus the body of Lord Ganesa are all parts of a fire sacrifice.

17.Anarghya alankarai raruna vasanair bhooshitha thanu,
Kareendrasyaa simhasanamupagathaa bhaathi budhararat,
Smithaasya than madhye apyudhitharavi bimbomaruchi,
Sthiraa sidhir vaame mathiritharaya chamarakaraa.

Dressing up his body with very costly red cloths ,
That king of elephants sits on a throne and is the wisest among all,
And with a smile and glitter of the rising sun Goddess Sidhi is on the left,
And on the right Goddess Budhi sits holding in her hand a fan.

18.SAmanthaathasyaasan pravara muni sidhaa sura gana,
Prasamsanthithyagre vividhanudhibhisanjaliputa,
Bidou jadhyair brahmadhi biranuvrathobhaktha nikarai,
Rganaa Kreeda modha pramudha vikatadhyai saha charai.

He is surrounded by his courtiers who are great sages, Sidhas and devas,
Who keep on praising him by use of various types of prayers,
And he is surrounded by assistants steeped in devotion to him,
Like Brahma and others , ganas , kreedas , aamodhas and pramodhas.

19.Vasithwa drushtashta dasadigaakhilollola manu vag,
Druthi paadma gadgonjanarasa balaa sidhya imaa,
SAda prushte thishtanthya nimisha drusasthanmukhalayaa,
Ganesam sevanthepyathi nikatasoopayanakaraa

The eight type of wealth like vasithwa(attraction) , the ten directions ,
The eight occult powers like Vagdruthi(word command ) are standing behind him always,
And the devas holding several presents to Ganesa,
Are standing in front of him staring at his face.

20.Mrugangasyarambha prabruthi ganika yasya puratha,
Susangeetham kurvanthyathi kuthuka gandarwa sahithaa,
Mudha paaro naathrethyanupama padhe dhyor vigalitha,
Sthiram jatham chitham charana mavalokyasya vimalam.

The divine ladies with deer like body are singing in his place ,
With great joy along with several Gandharwas,
And they realizing that real joy is in the place of Ganesa and not in theirs,
Have fixed permanently their mind at the feet of Ganesa which is pure.

21.Hareniyam aakhyatha stripura madhane chasura vadhe,
Ganesa parvathyaa bali vijaya kalepi harinaa,
Vidathraa samsrushtavuragapathinaa kshonidharane,
Narai sidhou mukthou tribhuvanajaye pushpadanushaa,

This Ganesa was meditated upon by Lord Shiva,
At the time of burning of the three cities ,
By Goddess Parvathi at the time of killing of asuras ,
By Lord Vishnu at the time of his dealing with Maha Bali,
By Lord Brahma during the time of creation ,
By Lord Adhisesha at the time of carrying of earth,
By men for powers as well as salvation ,
And also by the God of love who won over all the three worlds.

22.Ayam suprasade sura iva nijananda bhuvane,
Mahaan srimanadhyo laghu thara gruhe ranka sadrusa ,
Shiva dware dwaasthaa nrupa iva sadaa bhoopathigruhe,
Sthiro bhootrhvomange sisu ganapathir lalalana para.

He is like a Deva at time of joy , great one in the home of rich man,
Equivalent to a poor man in house of the poor,
Like the gate keeper in the home of Lord Shiva,
Like a king in the palace , and like an adorable little child in the home of Goddess Parvathi.

23.Amushmin santhushte gaja vadana eevaapi vibudhe,
Thathasthe santhushtaa sthribhuvana gathaa syur budha ganaa,
Dayalur herambho na cha bhavathi thasmimscha purushe,
Vrudhaa sarvam thasya prajananamatha santhrathamasi.

When this elephant faced God became very contented,
All the learned people of this world become contented,
And to those people on whom Lord Ganesa is not kind,
Everything will be useless and their birth itself would be full of darkness.

24. Varenyo brhoosundir bhrugu guru kuja mudhgala mukhaa,
Hyaparasthal bhakthaa japahavana pooja Sthuthi paraa,
Ganesoyam bhakthapriya ithi sarvathra gathayo,
Vibhakthir yathrasthe swayamapi sada thishtathi ganaa.

The blessed brusundi , Jupiter . venus , mars and the sage Mudhgala,
Are his devotees and are interested in chanting his names and worship him ,
Because it is well known that Ganesa likes his devotees,
Wherever his devotion exists , his Ganas would be present there.

25.Mrudha kaschidha thos chadha vilikhithaa vaapi drushadha,
Smruthaa vyaaja murthy padhi yadhi bahiryena sahasaa,
Asudhodhaa drushtaa pravadathi thadaahwaam Ganapathe,
Sruthaa shudho marthyaa bhavathiu durithad vismaya ithi.

It is surprising to know that if a man happened to see on his way,
A Ganesa idol made of pearl or minerals or stone ,
Or happen to tell or hear his name or happen to remember it,
He would become pure and get rid of the effect of all sins.

26.Bahir dwarayordhwam gaja vadhana varshmendhanamayam,
Prasastham vaa kruthwaa vividha kusalai sthahra nihitham,
Prabhava than moorthyaa bhavathi sadanam mangala mayam,
Vilokyanandasthaam bhavathi jagatho vismaya ithi.

It is surprising that if we keep the form of Ganesa made by,
Great sculptors on the top of the door of entry of even a forest,
That forest would become auspicious and wealthy ,
And the people there would be filled with joy.

27.Sithe bhadre mase pratha saradhi madhyahna samaye,
Mrudho moorthim Ganapathithdhou dundi sadrusim,
Samarchanuthsaha prabhavathi mahaan sava sadane,
Vilokyanandasthaam prabhavathi nrunaam vismaya ithi.

It is surprising to know that if a Ganesa idol made of mud,
Is worshipped every year in the waxing half
Of the month of Bhadra(August-september) on the fourth phase of moon,
At noon , in all those homes there would be great zest,
And all those who see it would be full of joy.

28.Thahyeka sloko varayathi mahimno Ganapathe ,
Kadham saslokesmin sthutha ithi bhaye samprathi thathe ,
Smrutham namaasyakam sakrudhi manthahwaya samam,
Yatho yasykasya sthavana sadrusam nanyadhaparaa.

Even one stanza of this Ganesa Mahimna(greatness) prayer ,
Would lead to fulfillment of our wishes,
And do not doubt whether one stanza can please Ganapathy,
For saying his one name is equivalent to telling it endlessly,
And there is no prayer comparable to prayer addressed to him.

29.Gaja vadana vibho yad varnitham vaibhavam they,
Thwiha janaushi mametham charu thadrsayaasu ,
Thwamasi cha karunaaya sagara kruthsnadatha-,
Pyathi thava bruthakoham sarvadhaa chinthakosmi.

Oh Lord Ganesa , please show me these great qualities,
Of yours described by me even in this birth of mine,
For you are the ocean of mercy and one who fulfills,
All my desires and I am your slave and would meditate on you.

30.Susthothram prapaathu nithyametha devaa,
Swaanandam prathigamanepyayam sumargaa,
SAnchinthyam swamanasi thath padaravindham,
Sthapyaagre sthavanaphalam natha karishye.

Let this great prayer be read by people everyday,
For it is a more easy way to those who strive for salvation,
And I after conecrating his lotus like feet in my mind,
Would start praying those lotus like feet.

31.Ganesa devasya mahathmyametha,
Dhyaa sravayedhwaapi padecha thasya,
Klesaallayam yanthi labhecha seegram,
Sthree puthra vidhyartha grahancha mukthim.

If this prayer describing the greatness of Lord Ganesa ,
Is meditated or read or heard or cause to be heard by others,
He would get rid of all his problems quickly,
And he would get wife, son , knowledge , wealth , house and salvation.

Sri Pushpa Dantha Virachitham Sri Ganesa mahimna stotram sampoornam

Thus ends the prayer telling the greatness of Ganapathi composed by sage Pushpadantha.

Lord Ganesha mantras are considered as destruction of any obstacles in life; there is no doubt about that, obstacles or crises are destructed by chanting of ganesh mantras or hymns.

These Mantras has to be chant in front of Lord Ganesha will holy mind to get a peaceful and happiness life by god grace.

subramanya swami

Sri Subrahmanya Bhujangam is a stotra composed by Sri Adi Sankaraacharya at Thiruchendur ( presently located in TamilNadu, India). When Sri Sankara meditated upon Sri Subrahmanya at this temple, he became aware of the self luminous light shining in his heart and words came out his mouth extemporaneously in the bhujanga metre. It is also said that Achaarya then actually saw the Adisesha worshipping the Lord and hence, adopted the bhujanga metre.

Sri Subrahmanya Bhujangam is a hymn is addressed to Lord Subrahmanya, the presiding deity of Tiruchendur, in the south-east coast of India, off the district of Tirunelveli. Adi Sankara composed this hymn of thiry three verses, in the peculiar Bhujanga metre, noted for its sinuous movement like that of a serpent. The hymn is full of piety, spiritual exaltation and ecstasy.

It also reveals the efficacy of praise, prayer and meditation on Subrahmanya. This hymn is considered as an eulogy of extraordinary merit.

  1. Sada balaroopapi vighnadhi hanthri, mahadanthi vaktrapi panchasyamanya

vidheendhradhi mrigya ganeshabhidhame, vidhattham shriyam kapi kalyanamurthi :

Though a mere child, he annihilates mountainous obstacles. Though endowed with an elephant’s face, he is most dear to Siva, the Panchasya (which word also means a lion.) He is sought after by gods, such as Brahma and Indra. May the benevolent Lord known by the name Ganesha bless me with wealth.

  1. na janami padhyam, na janami gadhyam, na janami shabdam, na janami charttham

chideka shadasya hridhi dhyothathe me, mukhanis saranthe giraschapi chitram

I neither know the sound nor sense. Neither prose nor poetry. Yet when the One Intelligence glows in my heart, with his six shining faces, words cascade from my mouth so effortlessly.

  1. mayuradhiroodam mahavakyagudam manoharideham mahachittageham

      mahidevadevam mahavedabhavam mahadevabalam bhaje lokapalam

The peacock mounted lord is the secret shrouded in the mystic formula. His body captivates our minds with its beauty. He is resident in the mighty souled men. I serve the guardian of the worlds, the deity of brahmins, object of Vedas and the dear son of Mahadeva.

  1. yadha sannidhanam gatha manavame, bhavam bodhiparam gathasthe thadhaiva

ithi vyanjayan sindhutheere ya aaste, thameede pavitram parashaktiputram

“When men reach my abode on the shores of this sea, they have already crossed the life’s sea of strife.” Thus the lord seems to proclaim from his coastal shrine. I praise this sacred Son of the Divine Mother.

  1. yathabdhes tharanga layam yanthi thunga, thatthaiva padha sannidhou sevyamane

itheevormi panktheer nrinam darshayantham, sada bhavaye hrithsaroje guham tham

‘Tides arise in the sea, glide towards the shore and then break into froth and foam. So too my devotees’ dangers shall vanish.” The Lord seems to say so. May I ever meditate on him in the core of my heart.

  1.  girou mannivase nara yedhi rada :, thadha parvathe rajathe thedhiruda :

itheeva bruvan gandha shailadhirudah :, sadevo mudhe me sada shanmukhostu

May the lord of six faces ever bring me joy. Seated on the Gandhamadana mountain, he declares that those who have climbed to his hill shrines, have scaled the silver hills, the Kailas, as well.

  1.  mahambodhitheere mahapapachore, muneendranukoole sugandhakhya shaile

guhayam vasantham svabhasa lasantham, janarthim harantham shrayamo guham tham

On the shores of the great ocean which steals away the sins of the devotees, stands the Sugandha hills, the most favourable site for the sages to perform their penance! Thou resides there to destroy the worries of the devotees! O self-luminous Lord who is present in the cave of the heart! I adore Thee!.

  1.  lasat swarna gehai nrinam kamadohe, sumasthoma sanchanna manikya manche

samudyath sahasrarka thulyaprakasham, sada bhavaye kartikeyam suresham

In a radiant golden bedroom, on a cot set with rubies and covered on all sides with sweet smelling flowers, Thou art seated with the effulgence of a thousand suns! Thou art the answer to every desire of the heart and Thou fulfils the righteous desires of Thy devotees! Thou art the Lord of Devas and son of the Lord of the universe! O Kartikeya I meditate on Thee!.

  1.  ranat hamsake manjuleth yanthashone, manohari lavanya peeyusha poorne

manash : – shatpadho me bhava klesha taptha :, sada modatham skanda te pada padme

Let the mind (like a bee) which is burdened with domestic troubles become happy by hovering around Thy lotus feet which is adorned with the jingling ringlets made of rings and beads, red in color indicating grace, filled with the nectar of beauty which attracts the minds of the devotees.

  1.  suvarnabha divyam barodh bhasa manam, kvanath kinkini mekhala shobha manam

lasad dhemapattena vidhyotha manam, katim bhavaye skanda te deepya manam

Oh! Skanda, I meditate on Thy waist which is covered by a gold coloured cloth, shining with a string of ringing bells and beads, wearing a shining gold belt over the golden silk cloth, and which is by itself self-resplendent.

  1. pulindesha kanya ghana bhoga thunga, sthana lingana saktha kashmeera ragam

namasyamyaham tarakare tavorah :, svabhakaa vane sarvada sanuragam

Oh! conqueror of Tarakasura! By embracing Valli’s (hunter’s daughter) well-developed breast ornated with saffron, Thy chest became red coloured, thereby manifesting your eternal grace towards devotees. And such a chest I adore.

  1. vidhou kluptha dhandan svaleela dhri thandan, nirasthebha shundan dvishath kaladhandan

hathendhrari shandan jagatrana shoundan, sada te prachandan shraye bahu dhandan

Oh! Shanmukha! Thy arms punished Brahma, Thy arms govern the world as Thy play; Thy arms killed Soorapadma and other demons who are enemies of Indra; Thy arms are matchless in protecting the Universe, and Thy arms are a terror to Thine enemies. I worship Thy twelve arms which do all these things effortlessly.

  1. sada sharada : shan mrugangka yadhisyu :, samudyantha eva stthithash cheth samanthath

sadapoorna bimba : kalankaishcha heena :, tada tvan mukhanam bruve skanda samyam

What can I compare to Thy six faces! If there be six full moons free from blemishes and if those moons be ever shining on all sides, even then they would be no match to your effulgent faces.

  1. sphuran mandahasai : sahamsani chanchath, kataksha valeebhringa sanghojvalani

sudhasyandhi bimba dharani shasoono, tava lokaye shanmukham bhoruhani

Oh! Son of Parameshwara, I see Thy six smiling faces shining like a group of swans, having gleaming side glances ever moving like a row of bees and with red lips overflowing with nectar.

  1. vishaleshu karnantha dheergesh vajasram, dayas yandhishu dvadha shas veekshaneshu

mayeeshath katakshas : sakruth pathi tashcheth, bhavethe dayasheela ka nama hani :

Oh! Son of Parameshwara! Oh Merciful Lord! When Thou hast twelve broad long eyes extending upto ears, what will Thou lose by casting that side glance for a moment (on me)? .

  1. suthangodhbhavo mesi jeevethi shad dha, japanmantra meesho mudha jigrathe yan

jagad bhara bhridbhyo jagannatha thebhya :, kireeto jvalebhyo namo mastakebhya

Oh! Lord of the Universe! I offer my prostration to Thy six heads wearing crowns with brilliant rubies which protect the welfare of creatures, which were smelt by Parameshwara with joy uttering six times the mantra “Child Thou were born of me, May Thou live long”.

  1. sphuradh ratna keyoora harAbhi rama, chalath kundala shri-lasadh kandabhaga

katou peethavasa kare charushakti, purasthan ma mastham purares thanooja

Oh Kumara! Son of Lord Parameshwara (who destroyed Tripura)! With garlands of brilliant rubies on Thy shoulders and chest, with bright cheeks shining with pendants dangling from Thy ears, wearing silk garment around Thy waist, and with Velin Thy hand, Oh! Lord appear before me (It is said that Lord appeared before Acharya when he sung this stotra)!.

  1. ihayahi vatsethi hasthan prasarya, aah-vayath-yadha-rach-shankare mathu rankath

samuthpathya thatham shrayantham kumaram, harashlishta gathram bhaje balamoorthim

When Lord Shankara called Thee affectionately with arms extended, Thou hurriedly rose from Mother’s lap and rushed into Shankara’s arms who embraced Thee affectionately. I meditate on such a Lord Kumara.

  1. kumaresha soono guhaskanda sena, pathe shaktipAne mayurAdhiruda

pulindhathmaja kantha bhaktharthi harin, prabho tarakare sada raksha mam tvam

Oh Kumara! Oh Son of Lord of the Universe! One who shines in the cave of the heart as Guha! Oh Skanda! Oh Lord of the Devas’ Army! Oh Wielder of the weapon Vel which is the svarupa of Parashakti! One who rides on the peacock chariot! Oh Beloved of the Hunter’s daughter (Valli)! Destroyer of the sins of your devotees! Enemy of Tarakasura! Oh Lord protect me!.

  1. prashan thendriye nashta samngnye vicheshte, kaphod karivaktre bhayoth kampi gathre

prayanon mukhe mayyanathe thadhaneem, drutham me dhayalo bhavagre guham tham

Hail Guha, Dayalo. During the last moments of my life, when I will have lost control of my senses, when I will have lost consciousness, when I will be unable move my limbs, when I will be emitting foam of phlegm, when my body will be trembling with fear of death, when I will have none to protect me, Thou must hasten to give me darshan.

  1.  krithan thasya dhooteshu chandeshu kopath, daha chindhi bhindheethi mam tharja yatsu

mayuram samaruhya mabhairi thitvam, purash shakti panir mamayahi sheegram

Oh! Lord, when ferocious messengers of the God of Death come to torture me angrily shouting, “Burn him, Kill him”, Oh! Lord Thou must hasten to appear before me, riding on your peacock, carrying Shaktivel, to encourage me not to be afraid.

  1. pranam yasa kruth pada yosthe pathitva, prasadya prabho prarthaye (a)nekavaram

na vaktum kshamoham thadhaneem krupapdhe, na karyanthakale mana gapyu peksha

Oh Merciful Lord! I am prostating to Thy feet often to secure Thy blessings. Oh treasure house of mercy! I offer prayers to please Thee. Thou should not be indifferent towards me during my last moments. At that time I may not have the control and energy to pray to Thee!.

  1. sahasranda bhoktha tvaya shooranama, hathas tarakas simhavaktrascha dhaitya

mamanthar hridhistham manaklesha mekam, na hamsi prabho kim karomi kva yami

O Lord! Thou hast slain the demon Soora who ruled the thousand universes! So were the demons Taarakasura and Simhavaktra. But Lord, why have you not killed the demon called mental worry which haunts my mind? When it is afflicting me, what will I do? And where will I go [other than you for help] ? .

  1.  aham sarvada dukkha bhara vasanno, bhavan deenabandhus tva dhanyam na yache

bhavadh bhaktirodham sada kluptha badham, mamadhim drutham nasha yo masuta tvam

Oh Son of Uma! I am always troubled by the mental worries. Thou art the friend of helpless! I approach none but you for saving me. Quickly destroy my mental worries as they interfere with my devotion towards Thee!.

  1.  apasmara kushta kshayarsha prameha, jvaronmadha gulmadhi roga mahantha

pishachashcha sarve bhavatpatra bhoothim, vilokya kshanath tarakare dravanthe

Oh Conqueror of Taraka! Severe epilepsy, leprosy, consumption, lung diseases, venereal diseases, fevers, mental diseases of all types, they run away the moment they see Thy vibhuti contained in a leaf.

  1. drishi skandamoorthih shrutou skandakeerthih, mukhe me pavitram sada tach-charitram

kare tasya krityam vapus tasya bhrutyam, guhe santu leena mama shesha bhava

Always may I have before my eyes the murthi of Lord Skanda! Always let my ears hear only the praises of Lord Skanda! Always let my mouth sing the praise of Lord Skanda! Always let my hands be of service to the Lord! Always let my body is a servant to the Lord! Let my limbs, thoughts and actions be devoted to Skanda!.

  1. muneena muthaho nrinam bhakti bhajam, abheeshta pradha santhi sarvatra deva

nrina manthya janam api svartha dhane, guha devam anyam najane najane

In all the worlds there are Devas to grant the boons of sages and great bhaktas. But for the lowly and ordinary devotees, I know not of any other Deity to protect them except Guha!.

  1. kalathram sutha bandhuvarga pashurva, naro vatha naree gruhe ye madheeya

yajantho namanthah stuvantho bhavantham, smaran thascha te santu sarve kumara

Oh! Destroyer of Krauncha Shaila! Let every thing that troubles my body, birds, beasts, insects, severe diseases, be pierced by Thy powerful weapon Vel and taken far away and destroyed.

aham chathibalo bhavan loka thatha, kshamasvaparadham samastham mahesha

Do not the parents overlook the faults of their children? Oh! Chief of the army of Devas! I am a small child. Thou art the Father of the Universe. Oh Mahesha! Forgive all my faults.

  1. namah kekine shaktaye chapi tubhyam, namah chhaga tubhyam namah kukkutaya

namah sindhave sindhu deshaya tubhyam, punah skanda moorthe namaste namostu

I bow to Thee, O Peacock (the symbol of Vedas)! I bow to Thee, O Shakti Weapon (Vel is Parashakti herself), I bow to Thee, O Sheep (the symbol of maya tattvam), I bow to Thee, O Rooster (the symbol of Ego), I bow to Thee, O Ocean (the symbol of ananda), I bow to Thee, O Tiruchendur Shrine, I bow to Thee, O Lord Skanda! I bow to Thee again and again! Let all my prostrations reach Thee!.

O Lord, Thou art the ocean of bliss, reveal Thyself! O Lord who is the friend of all creatures, reveal Thyself! O Lord, Son of Parameshwara, Bestower of liberation, reveal Thy Glory to me and protect me!.

  1. bhujangakhya vritthena kluptham sthavam yah, pateth bhakti yuktho guham sam pranamya

suputran kalathram dhanam dheergamayuh, labheth skanda sayujya manthe narrassah.

That holy devotee, who prostrates to Lord Guha, reciting the Bhujanga stotra daily, with devotion, will be blessed with good sons, good wife, wealth and long life, and at end of his life, will attain eternal bliss with Lord Skanda.

In this hymn Sankara reveals the splendor, glory and Infinity of Subrahmanya at two levels. One is external and the other is internal.

The sacred shrine at Tiruchendur framed by hills and facing the sea with huge waves lashing its shore, represents the external power. And then there is the Indweller in each one of us, who is the over seer, permitter, Lord, Enjoyer and the Ruler. He represents the internal power who is the nearest and dearest friend of mankind.
